Pool Maintenance
After setting the run time, the pump will restart automatically at the same time the following day.
IMPORTANT: If the pump powers off or the "Er" alarm appears during the working time or while in stand-by mode, the automatic mode will reset and you will need to set the time again.
How can I check if air is leaking from the air valve?
• It can be located by using a mixture of liquid soap and water. Before checking for the air leak from the air valve, please make sure that inflatable ring is fully inflated, then apply the soapy mixture to the air valve. While doing so, you will see bubbles where there is an air leak.
If the air valve is deformed, how can I restore its initial shape?
• Discharge 10% of the water for safety reasons.
• Prepare some hot water 85℃ (176℉), and put the whole valve into the water for 1 minute.
• Wait for the valve to cool down and close the valve. It will recover the correct shape. Warning: the operation must be performed by an adult. Be careful with the hot water.
Yes, you can, however, we do not suggest using the pump during a storm when thunder and/or lightning is present.
First, you need to check if the flow rate of your pump is suitable with the water quantity of the new pool, and then you have to make sure the hose connections are compatible.
The filter cartridge can be cleaned in the dishwasher using temperatures under 30°C / 86°F and without using any detergent or degreasing. For safety reasons, since the dirty filter cartridge contains bacteria and other harmful substances, any other dishes or kitchen items should not be washed together with the dirty cartridge. Be sure to sanitize the dishwasher before starting the normal operations.
The filter cartridge can be rinsed out with a garden hose and reused. However, if the filter cartridge remains soiled and discolored, then the filter cartridge should be replaced.
Yes. There is no problem in using the filter pump when the pool is covered.
Yes, the sand filter can work without the Ozonator. You have to place the timer on position 0.
No, please do not use the swimming pool when the sand filter pump is operating.
Why is the color of the liner fading?
- Exposure to sunlight can fade of the original color of the external surface. The internal PVC color can fade with use of chemicals necessary for water maintenance. Unfortunately, there is no way to restore the original color of the liner. However, it should not affect the use of your liner.
- IMPORTANT: over usage of chemicals can damage the PVC liner, and the results can be dangerous for the user. Always follow the quantity suggested and use the chemical floater to perform the chemical treatment. Don't add the chemicals directly to the water. The chemicals will deposit on the bottom and can break the PVC.
Why the color inside my pool is fading?
- Excessive use of chemicals can cause the color of the inside of the liner to fade. This is similar to a swimsuit fading over time from repeated contact with chlorinated water.
It is strongly recommended to disassemble the pool for the winter. The above ground pools may collapse under the weight of ice and snow, which would greatly damage the PVC pool walls. We recommend disassembling the pool when temperatures fall below 8ºC / 45ºF.
Yes, we recommend using pool chemicals to maintain the proper chemical levels of the water. Pool chemicals can also make maintenance easier by significantly reducing the amount of times you change your water during the season. Important: always follow the safety instructions written on the chemical products. Chemicals can be purchased from here on our website or your local pool suppliers.
You can check for an air leak in the air valve by using a mixture of liquid soap and water. Before checking for the air leak from the air valve, please make sure that inflatable ring is fully inflated, then apply the soapy mixture to the air valve. While doing so, you will see bubbles where there is an air leak.
The compatible pump flow rate is between 700 gal. (2,650L) to 4,000 gal. (15,141L).

The electrolytic cell needs periodic manual cleaning due to existing minerals in the water, which may result in scale accumulation on the titanium plates. To extend the life and performance of the electrolytic cell, it is recommended to inspect the electrolytic cell every month and clean it if necessary as outlined below:
1. Unplug the spa or pool from the power outlet before working on the electrolytic cell.
2. Remove the filter set and install the stopper inside the spa or pool to prevent water from flowing when disassembling the chlorinator.
3. Unscrew the three screws on the chlorinator's transparent cover located on the side of the spa pump. Disconnect the cable that you find back from the transparent cover, and use the provided wrench to open the gear that faces the electrolytic cell. When the gear is removed, pull out the electrolytic cell.
IMPORTANT: due to the water, pulling out the electroliyic cell may be a little hard. Don't worry about having to use more strength to pull it out. Don't use any tools or you could damage the plastic part or the gasket.
4. Once it's out, take a visual inspection of the electrolytic cell to see if there are any scales (light colored crusty or flaky deposits) on the titanium plates. If there are no scales, reinstall the electrolytic cell inside the housing.
IMPORTANT: the electrolytic cell has a pin, and there is only one position to put it back into the housing.
5. If scales were found on the titanium plates, try to flush them out with a high-pressure garden hose. Do not use any metal tools because this will scratch the coating off the plates. If the scale on the plates cannot be removed, prepare a solution of 50% water and 50% table vinegar and submerge the electrolytic cell for 3-4 hours.
IMPORTANT: Make sure to clean off any residual scale or vinegar.
1. Put the stopper plug inside the pool to close the valves. If the pool is equipped with connection valves, close them.
2. Take out the filter cartridge from the filter housing.
3. Rinse out with a garden hose and reuse. However, if the filter cartridge remains soiled and discolored, then it should be replaced.
4. Close the filter cap and take out the stopper plug from inside the pool.
5. Before starting the filter pump, open the purge valve to purge all residual air inside the filter pump.
For pools smaller than 22 ft. (6.71 m), reduce the number of long hoses simultaneously until the total length is equivalent to the length from dedicated suction line to the fastest point in the pool.
The pressure gauge should drop to zero (“0”) when the motor is turned off. If the motor turned off and the pressure gauge didn't drop to zero, it is broken.
IMPORTANT: Please ensure the skimmer’s motor is unplugged before any maintenance begins. To perform the maintenance of the filter cartridge in Skimatic filter pump, follow the below steps or watch instruction video :

- When used with sand filters with the flow rate: 1,500 gal./h (5,678 L/h) or filter pumps with the flow rate: 2,000 gal./h (7,571 L/h), turn the top knob until the bottom reaches Line 3.
If limestone is found on the titanium plates, try to flush them out with a high-pressure garden hose. Do not use any metal tools because they will scratch the coating off the plates, rendering them useless.
If the limestone on the plates cannot be removed, reinstall the hose adaptor, attach the connecting hose and disconnect the water return hose from the pool. Lift the free ends of the two hoses upwards in a “U” shape. Pour table vinegar into the electrolytic cell through the pipe and make sure the titanium plates are completely immersed in vinegar for 2-3 hours.
The water from the pool flows through the strainer, up through the control valve, down through the sand, up through the collector hub in the center and out through the control valve back to the pool. Dirt and debris from the pool water are trapped in the sand and clean water is returned into the pool.
The timer on the sand filter has 9 different positions. Each position has different cycle. You can leave the sand filter connected to the power source, and the sand filter will operate automatically following cycle you set:
• Position 4: working time 4 hours / waiting time 20 hours
• Position 6: Working time 6 hours / waiting time 18 hours
• Position 8: Working time 8 hours / waiting time 16 hours
• Position 10: Working time 10 hours / waiting time 14 hours
• Position 12: Working time 12 hours / witing time 12 hours
• Position 24: Working time 24 hours
Below three positions are the automatic cycle, and it means that if you set one of these positions, the sand filter will continuously operate following cycle.
• Position P4: Cycle working time 4 hours / waiting time 4 hours
• Position P6: Cycle working time 6 hours / waiting time 6 hours
• Position P8: Cycle working time 8 hours / waiting time 8 hours

1. Turn filtration OFF before connecting the Automatic Pool Cleaner to your pool.
2. Detach the strainer plug and insert the connector into the strainer hole.
3. Attach the connector to the short hose and regulator valve, then connect the long hose sections to cleaner.
We recommend running the filter pump / sand filter pump minimum 8 hours every day; this is the necessary time to circulate the entire pool water.
Operating hours could increase as this is based on the quality of the water or how often the pool is used.
This depends on the amount of use the pool receives, how the pool is chemically and/or manually maintained and the attention paid to covering the pool. If maintained correctly, the water should last a full summer season. Please contact your local pool chemical supplier for detailed information regarding chemical maintenance; they will be able to properly advise you about maintaining the cleanliness of your water.
There is no set time limit for the longevity of the pools. Following the instructions in the owner’s manual and with proper care, maintenance and storage, you can considerably increase the life of your pool. Improper set-up, storage and usage can instead reduce it drastically.
Follow these instructions to add the correct quantity of salt:
1. Unplug the chlorinator and THEN the filter pump/sand filter.
2. Add the salt in accordance with the quantity table 1 or table 3 section (salt needed when low salt level detected)
3. Run the filter pump/sand filter for 8 hours
4. Plug and switch on the chlorinator and check if the green light is on
Repeat the operation from step 2 until the level of salt is good.
The optimum salt level in the pool water is 3,000ppm ( 3g/L ), or you can find the specifications in the Owner’s Manual.
1. Unplug the chlorinator and THEN the filter pump/sand filter.
2. Drain approximately 20% of the water from your pool.
3. Refill until the water level reaches the correct level.
4. Start the filter pump/sand filter for 8 hours.
5. Plug back in and switch on the chlorinator and check if the green light is on.
6. Repeat the operation from step 2 until the level of salt is good.
Bestway has two weight standards for the ladders: 145kg ( 331 lbs) and 305kg (672 lbs). Bestway ladders are in compliance with all international and national safety standards.
Bestway's Flowclear sand filter is equipped with a pressure gauge that shows the working pressure. If it reaches the red level, it means that the sand is full of debris, and the backwash function must be performed for 5 minutes. After that, rinse for 2 minutes.
IMPORTANT: backwash and rinse functions reduce the quantity of water in your pool, so remember to refill the water to have the correct level of water inside the pool.
The purge air operation on the Flowclear filter pump needs to be performed before the first use and after all maintenace operation of the pumps.
Under normal operating conditions, sand should be changed in residential filters every 4 to 5 years. In areas with high air contaminants such as dust, leaves or any condition that requires frequent backwashing, the sand may need to be changed every 2 to 3 years.
Bestway recommends testing the pool's chemical levels before each use.
To ensure your pool water stays clean, please check the filter cartridge once a week. For best result, we recommend changing the filter cartridge every 2 weeks, depending on usage. A heavily soiled or dirty cartridge should be replaced sooner.
Follow the instructions in the Owner’s Manual provided with the filter pump. Please kindly note that it is necessary to put the blue plug in the pool valves to avoid water flowing out in order to replace the filter cartridge without emptying the pool.
Step 1: Discharge 10% of the water for safety reasons. Step 2: Carefully prepare some hot water 85°C (185°F), and put the whole valve into the water for 1 minute. Step 3: Wait for the valve to cool down and close the valve. It will rebound to its correct shape.
Warning: the operation must be performed by an adult. Be careful with the hot water.
Yes, it is very important to use it when you set up the pool. It will help protect the PVC liner.
It is not necessary to add more salt if you have already added the specified amount. Salt loss is only due to physical removal of pool water. Salt cannot be lost due to evaporation. The only time you need to add salt is when the level of chlorine tested by the Bestway test strips is below 2ppm and the operating time is as stated in Table 2 and Table 5 in the Flowclear Chlorinator Owner’s Manual.
No, it is not necessary to use an additional filtration system if you installed the Flowclear Skimatic on the pool also. The Skimmer Filter Pump is a system with two functions integrated into one item.
No. While the filter pump helps to capture the particles suspended in the water, chemical products are necessary to clean and maintain the correct balance for hygienic water.
Adding a timer is not necessary. The Bestway Flowclear chlorinator has an integrated timer function that can cover all possible combinations of time from 2 to 24 hours.
The timer cannot be used if the filter pump / sand filter pump is equipped with an external RCD or GFCI. The timer will compromise the functionality of the products. If the filter pump / sand filter pump doesn't have an external PRCD or GFCI, you can use the timer. If you installed the filter pump / sand filter pump together with a chlorinator or a pool heater, be sure the chlorinator has already finished the set cycle or switch off the pool heater before the filter pump / sand filter pump.
No. Under no circumstances should you jump or dive into the pool. Bestway does not sell any pools that are deep enough for such activities, and failure to abide by this rule may likely result in serious injury, paralysis or death.
The Bestway Flowclear Skimatic filter pump is suitable with all dimensions of frames of Bestway pools and with the inflatable ring of the Fast Set pool, thanks to the two sets of hooks included in the product set.
IMPORTANT: The only structure in the Bestway pool range that is not compatible with the Skimatic Filter Pump is the steel wall Hydrium Pool.
IMPORTANT: When you buy this product, be sure that the flow rate of the Skimatic filter pump is compatible with the water volume of your pool.
Yes. This is absolutely normal because the ladder must be flexible enough to adapt to the weight pressure of the person mounting it.
If the pressure reading on the pressure gauge is over the maximum pressure mentioned in the user manual, it could be the time to clean the sand. Before cleaning the sand, check the following:
• Is there anything blocking the hoses?
• Are the connection valves closed or partially closed?
• Is there a hole in any of the hoses?
• Does the pressure go to 0 when you turn the filter off?
After having checked the above conditions, please follow the instructions on the manual to perform backwash and rinsing. If there is still a high-pressure reading, it is necessary to replace the sand bed.
Not all sets include the pool covers and ground cloths. Bestway supplies many different package combinations for all your needs. You can find the list of items you purchased in the package printed on the side of the box.
Bestway Flowclear sand filters have 6 functions:
1. Filter: This function is used to filter pool water and should be positioned here 99% of the time. Water is pumped through the sand filter, where it is cleaned and returned to the pool.
2. Backwash: This function is used to clean the sand bed. Water is pumped down through the collector hub, upwards through the sand bed, and deposited out of Port D.
3. Rinse: This function is for initial startup, cleaning, and sand bed leveling after backwash. Water is pumped downwards through the sand bed, up through the collector hub and deposited out of Port D.
4. Drain: This function drains water from the pool. Another filter bypass setting, water is pumped and deposited out of Port D, instead of returning to the pool.
5. Circulate: This function circulates pool water bypassing the sand filter. Use this function if the filter is broken to collect debris in the debris screens.
6. Closed: This function stops water flowing between the sand filter and the pool.
If the chlorine level is too high, don’t use the pool until the chlorine level drops below 4ppm. To decrease the chlorine level follow the instructions below:
1. Unplug the chlorinator and then the filter pump/sand filter pump.
2. Drain approximately 20% of the water from your pool.
3. Refill the pool until it reaches the correct level.
4. Run the filter pump/sand filter pump for 8 hours.
5. Test the chlorine level again with the Bestway test strips.
6. Repeat step 2 until the level of chlorine is between 2ppm and 4ppm.
This alarm advises that the water flow is too low or not working. Please check the troubleshooting section in the owner’s manual to solve this problem.
To find the right maintenace process for your water, try the following steps:
1. Increase filtration time.
2. Check the filter cartridge every day and rinse it with water. If the filter cartridge remains soiled and discolored, replace it with a new one.
3. The filter pump will not eliminate all bacterica in the water. The most important way to keep the water clean is by maintaining the correct chemical balance in the water. Check with your local pool supplies shop to get the correct quantity and type of chemicals needed to properly maintain clean water.

Starting in 2017, all repair patches included in the sets are underwater adhesive repair patches. All of the ones produced before 2017 were heavy duty repair patches. Using the underwater repair patch is easy, and it is not necessary to drain the water from your pool.
Set the time according to the flow rate of the pump and the capacity of the pool. The time should completely filter one cycle of the pool water.
Example: Gallon of water in your pool / pump system flow rate = minimum working time
The most important function of a filter pump is the elimination of every sort of impurity from the water with the aid of a filter cartridge and pool chemicals for its sterilization.
Please follow below directions or watch how to video .
To properly clean and store your Bestway pool, the pool must be thoroughly cleaned with a mild soap and water solution and carefully rinsed to completely remove soap suds and dirty residue. Make sure the pool is completely dry before storing it. The pool should be stored indoors at a moderate temperature between 41ºF (5ºC) and 100ºF (38ºC). Please store away from chemicals, rodents and out of reach of children.
