Spa Maintenance
Where can I find the reset button on the Bestway spa heater?
- The reset button is located on the side of Bestway spa heater.
When do I need to use the reset button on the side of the spa heater?
- The reset button is connected with a mechanical thermal switch that works when the water temperature in the spa is over 55 ℃ (131ºF), if the outside temperature is above 40, or the spa heater is exposed directly to sunlight. In case the thermal cut off intervenes, the display of the spa heater will show the alarm E08. Please follow below steps or see how to video .
IMPORTANT: perform the following tests in a cooler time of the day.
1. Unplug the spa heater from the power outlet.
2. Use a thin object to push the reset button (it is not necessary press hard).
3. Plug in the spa heater to a power outlet and reset the PRCD.
4. Push the heating function. If the situation is resolved, the display will not show the E08 alarm.
IMPORTANT: if the outside temperature remains over 40 or the spa heater still remains under sunlight, it will be necessary to perform the above steps everyday.
• Flashes fast: The pump lost Wi-Fi signal.
• Flashes slowly: The pump is waiting to connect to the router.
• Light is on: The pump has connected to the router.
• Light is off: The pump light is damaged, or the Wi-Fi module is damaged.
How can I find out where my spa is punctured?
- Apply diluted liquid soap to the liner. Bubbles should appear where the puncture is located. To fix the puncture you can use the repair kit included in the set.
How do I check if air is leaking in the spa liner?
- It can be located by using a mixture of liquid soap and water. Before checking the position of the air leak, please make sure that the spa liner is fully inflated. As a first step, we recommend checking the seal the inflation valve, then apply the soapy mixture to the whole spa liner. While doing so, you will see bubbles where there is an air leak.
My spa is leaking air, what can I do to fix it?
- Dry the area that needs to be repaired. Use the provided heavy-duty repair patch or PVC repair patch and remove any air bubbles from under the patch. Cut a circle of the repair patch large enough to cover the hole and apply the patch securely. Leave it for at least 12 hours before filling.
My inflatable cover is leaking air, what can I do to fix it?
- It can be located by using a mixture of liquid soap and water. Before checking the position of the air leak, please make sure that the spa inflatable cover is fully inflated. As a first step, we recommend checking the seal the inflation valve, then apply the soapy mixture to the whole inflatable cover. While doing so, you will see bubbles where there is an air leak.
The backrests are fixed with the buckles, and they can be removed. The lounges are welded on the bottom of the spa and cannot be removed.
The upper debris screen is removable. The lower debris screen, where the filter set is connected, is not removable.
In order to reduce power consumption, we don't suggest operating the spa 24 hours for 7 days. For the correct performance of the filtration system, 8 hours a day is more than enough and with the correct chemical maintenance, it will keep the water clean for a long time.
IMPORTANT: after 72 hours, the hibernation mode will stop all functions, and the display will show end. To reactivate the normal function of the spa heater, it is enough to push any button on the control panel.
The remote control is not designed to be used in the water. If it is accidentally submerged, remove it and dry it immediately.
You can leave the spa in the sun, but be sure that you are using the cover when the spa is not in use.
Using the spa cover to avoid damage to the top surface of the spa pool: The material of the spa liner is PVC, and inside the chamber, there is the air. In the sun, the PVC can become soft and increase the air pressure. This can cause deformation of the top ring. Using the top cover will avoid this situation. Never inflate the spa in the sun. To inflate the spa, wait until the evening when the temperature is lower and there is no sun. These simple operations will improve the life of your spa.
Using the spa cover to improve the quality of the water: The spa cover prevents the water from being contaminated by the external dust.
The Bestway spa heater can stay outside during rainy days. Be sure that the socket is plugged into a power outlet for outdoor use. If the outlet is not designed for outdoor use, it may cause serious damage to the spa heater or create a dangerous situation for the user.
IMPORTANT: don't use the spa during rainy days. People must not enter into the pool.
The salt can damage the internal component and the surface of the material if used in high percentage. The safe concentration of salt that can be used in the spa water is 1 ppm (1gr per liter of water). If the percentage of salt exceeds this concetration, the water must be changed in order to avoid damage to the internal mechanical part of the spa pump.
Why is the color of the liner fading?
- Exposure to sunlight can fade of the original color of the external surface. The internal PVC color can fade with use of chemicals necessary for water maintenance. Unfortunately, there is no way to restore the original color of the liner. However, it should not affect the use of your liner.
- IMPORTANT: over usage of chemicals can damage the PVC liner, and the results can be dangerous for the user. Always follow the quantity suggested and use the chemical floater to perform the chemical treatment. Don't add the chemicals directly to the water. The chemicals will deposit on the bottom and can break the PVC.
Why the color inside my pool is fading?
- Excessive use of chemicals can cause the color of the inside of the liner to fade. This is similar to a swimsuit fading over time from repeated contact with chlorinated water.
Why does the control panel display E01?
E01 means that the water flow sensor is not in the correct position or it is broken.
What can I do if the control panel displays E01?
1. Unplug the pump.
2. Plug in the pump. If the control panel still displays the alarm E01, the water flow sensor is broken.
Why does the control panel display E02?
E02 means that the system doesn’t detect water flow.
What can I do if the display shows E02?
When the spa heater displays the alarm E02, it means that the system doesn’t detect water flowing through the pump. One of the main problems could be incorrect maintenance of the filter cartridge. If the problem is the filter cartridge, follow the below steps:
1. Unplug the socket, wait 30 seconds and plug it back in, and reset the PRCD. This operation cancels the E02 alarm.
2. Remove the filter set from the spa.
3. Without the filter set, activate the filtration system.
If you follow the above steps and the E02 alarm doesn't appear on the display, change the filter cartridge and place the filter set back inside the spa. If the alarm still appears, please contact us .
IMPORTANT: Check that the debris screen is complete free of white lime stone that can come from the water. Be sure that the stopper caps are removed from the inlet/outlet ports inside the spa.
Why does the control panel display E03?
E03 means that the water temperature is lower than 4ºC (39ºF).
Note: DO NOT USE THE SPA if this is displayed.
What can I do if the control panel displays E03?
- Check the water temperature with a thermometer.
- If the water temperature is lower than 4ºC (39ºF), unplug the pump and wait until the water temperature reaches 10°C (50ºF), then plug it back in to restart the pump.
- If the water temperature is over 4ºC (39ºF), unplug the pump and plug it back in. If the pump still displays E03, then the temperature sensor is broken.

Why does the control panel display E05?
-E05 means the pump detects some problems with the temperature sensor connector, or the temperature sensors are broken.
What can I do if the control panel displays E05?
- There is a communication problem between the temperature sensor and the electronic board. The alarm could not be reset. Please contact us to receive assistance.
Why does the control panel display E06?
E06 means that the pump test has failed.
What can I do if the control panel displays E06?
1. Check if the water temperature is over 122℉ (50ºC) with a thermometer. If the temperature is over 122℉ (50ºC), unplug the pump and wait until the temperature reaches 95℉ (35ºC), then plug the pump back in. Don’t use the spa until the temperature has fallen below 95℉ (35ºC).
2. If the outside temperature is higher than 104℉ (40ºC) or if the pump is under direct sunlight, the internal temperature of the pump may be over 122℉ (50ºC), and it will cause the Thermal cut-out to cut off. If this is the case, unplug the pump and wait until the pump has cooled down and plug it back in to restart the heating system.
Note: The E06 will appear if the pump is subjected to the environmental conditions described above. If this is the case, every time you need to restart the system, and you have to follow the above instructions.
3. Unplug the pump and plug it back in. If the pump displays E06 again, it means that the safety system of the spa detects a dangerous situation and the spa cannot be used.
Why does the control panel display E08?
The reset button has tripped.
What can I do if the control panel displays E08?
1. Check the water temperature with a thermometer. If the temperature is over 52ºC (125ºF), don’t use the spa until the temperature has fallen below 35℃ (95ºF). Unplug the pump and press the reset button on the pump with a small and thin object, then plug the pump back in.
2. If the outside temperature is higher than 40℃ (104ºF) or if the pump is under direct sunlight, the internal temperature of the pump may over 52℃ (125ºF), and it will cause the reset button to be tripped. If this is the case, unplug the pump and wait until the pump has cooled down. Then press the reset button and restart the heating system.
Note: The E08 will appear if the pump is subjected to the environmental conditions described above. If this is the case, every time the RESET BUTTON has to be reset or you should move the spa elsewhere.
The spas equipped with Freeze Shield™ can be used all year. Please read the instruction manual carefully to be able to use the Freeze Shield system in the correct way, avoiding any damage to the spa. For the models without the Freeze Shield system, we don't recommend using the spa when the outdoor temperature is lower than 10°C/50°F. Using the spa when the outdoor temperature is below 10°C/50°F can freeze the water and damage the internal components of the spa heater and material of the liner.
At this moment, Bestway's spa heater doesn't have an automatic power saving system. When the power saving function ends, it must be set up again if you would like to use it again.
Please follow below steps or see how to video .
1. Switch off all functions of the spa, such as filtration and heating.
2. Unscrew the filter set inside the spa.
3. Open the filter set outside of the spa in order to be sure that when you open the filter set the debris inside doesn't fall into the spa.
4. Take out the filter cartridge and rinsed it out with a garden hose and put it back in the filter housing to reuse it. However, if the filter cartridge remains soiled and discolored, the filter cartridge should be replaced.
Remove the filter housing inside the spa following these steps:
1. Switch off all of the functions.
2. Using two hands, unscrew the filter housing from inside the spa pool.
IMPORTANT: remove quickly from the pool and open it far from the spa to avoid debris back into the water.
Please follow below steps or see how to video .
1. Unplug the spa pump
2. Remove the filter set and apply the stoppers to prevent the water from flowing out
3. Disconnect the heater from the liner
4. Connect the inflation hose to add air in the liner
After inflation is complete, reconnect the heater and the external water pipe. Before use, remember to remove the water stopper and install the filter set.
Before winterizing the spa, it is better to perform a backwash of the internal pipes. The operation is very easy and takes a few minutes. Follow these steps or see how to video to perform the back wash on your spa pump:
1. Dettach the spa from the liner
2. Insert a garden hose to the upper small connection
3. Start the water with low pressure and backwash for two minutes This operation will eliminate all residual dust deposits inside the pipe from the chemical or limestone present in your water.
IMPORTANT: don't perform the backwash into the big connection that is the AIR INLET. The pressure of the water can damage the gasket and the AIR PUMP.
The electrolytic cell needs periodic manual cleaning due to existing minerals in the water, which may result in scale accumulation on the titanium plates. To extend the life and performance of the electrolytic cell, it is recommended to inspect the electrolytic cell every month and clean it if necessary as outlined below:
1. Unplug the spa or pool from the power outlet before working on the electrolytic cell.
2. Remove the filter set and install the stopper inside the spa or pool to prevent water from flowing when disassembling the chlorinator.
3. Unscrew the three screws on the chlorinator's transparent cover located on the side of the spa pump. Disconnect the cable that you find back from the transparent cover, and use the provided wrench to open the gear that faces the electrolytic cell. When the gear is removed, pull out the electrolytic cell.
IMPORTANT: due to the water, pulling out the electroliyic cell may be a little hard. Don't worry about having to use more strength to pull it out. Don't use any tools or you could damage the plastic part or the gasket.
4. Once it's out, take a visual inspection of the electrolytic cell to see if there are any scales (light colored crusty or flaky deposits) on the titanium plates. If there are no scales, reinstall the electrolytic cell inside the housing.
IMPORTANT: the electrolytic cell has a pin, and there is only one position to put it back into the housing.
5. If scales were found on the titanium plates, try to flush them out with a high-pressure garden hose. Do not use any metal tools because this will scratch the coating off the plates. If the scale on the plates cannot be removed, prepare a solution of 50% water and 50% table vinegar and submerge the electrolytic cell for 3-4 hours.
IMPORTANT: Make sure to clean off any residual scale or vinegar.
Please follow below steps or see how to video .
1. Get ready to clean with gloves and gentle detergent
2. Wet the parts that need to be cleaned with a hose
3. Pour an appropriate amount of gentle detergent on the gloves and carefully scrub the dirty parts
4. Rinse with water after cleaning
If there are water droplets inside the liner due to humidity, we suggest watching how to video for detailed instructions.
Bestway's spas are produced with different material: PVC, Tritech PVC, and drop stitch material. The procedures to repair the different materials are different. Follow the instructions on the instruction manual or the back of the provided repair patch.
How do I take out the electrolytic cell from the pump?
To remove the electrolytic cell from the Bestway spa heater, please follow these steps:
1. Unplug the spa from the power outlet before operating on the electrolytic cell.
2. Remove the filter set and install the stopper inside the spa to prevent water from flowing when disassembling the chlorinator.
3. Unscrew the three screws on the chlorinator's transparent cover located on the side of the spa pump. Disconnect the cable that you find back from the transparent cover, and use the provided wrench to open the gear that looks at the electrolytic cell. When the gear is removed, pull out the electrolytic cell.
IMPORTANT: due to the water, pulling out the electroliyic cell may be a little hard. Don't worry and pull out using more strength. Don't use any tools to avoid damaging the plastic part or the gasket.
Before activating the heating function, you have to set the temperature. When the heating system is activated, the heating button and the filtration button will turn red. The filtration system starts, and the heating system starts heating the water. When it reaches the set temperature, the heating system stops heating, and the indicator light turns from red to green. When the water temperature is approximately 2 degrees lower than the set temperature, the heating system will start heating again, and the indicator light will become red again. If the filtration function is turned off, the heating system will stop. If the heating function is turned off, the filtration fuction will continue to work.
We suggest 8 hours a day as a minimum. Increase the time if you use the spa frequently.
IMPORTANT:
- The filtration system is not able to keep the water clean without performing the correct chemical treatment. Consult your chemical dealer to get the correct product and the correct quantity to keep the correct chemical balance.
- The filter cartridge has to be checked every day to increase the performance of the filtration system.
- Use the provided inflatable cover when the spa is not in use to reduce the frequency of water replacement.
As per the international standards, the water without correct chemical performance should be changed about every 3 days. The advice is for safety reasons: if the customer performs the correct chemical treatment and the correct filtration time, the water can be used for long time. It depends on the frequency of use.
IMPORTANT: cover the pool liner with the cover and take a shower before using the products. Those will keep the water cleaner longer.
It is recommended to empty the spa. If this is not possible, we advise to carry out a chemical treatment of the water to avoid the formation of algae. In addition, we recommend using the cover to prevent leaves or other types of debris from collecting on the surface.
Please follow below steps or see how to video .
1. Connect the pump to a power source and press the reset button on the GFCI.
2. Press the button on the control panel for 3 seconds. Then the indicator will start to flash, and the pump has entered the pairing mode.
3. Press the button on the remote control for 3 seconds, and the LCD display on the remote control will show "PIR". After several seconds, it will display "PAS". The remote control is ready to use.
NOTE: If the pairing operation did not finish within 20 seconds, it must be restarted.
On the market we have two version of spas. The version produced before 2018 has the hybernation system. It will stop automatically if any function is activated and there is no activity on the control panel for 72 hours. The message END will appear on the display of the control panel. In order to cancel the END message, push any button on the control panel. In the second version, produced after 2018, the hybernation system has been cancelled.
If spa is turned off, the remote control will not work. Insert the spa plug, reset the PRCD/GFCI, and then use the remote control.
If the spa is outdoors and considering a distance of one meter from the pump, the level for filtering and heating is up to 60 dB, and the level for massage is up to 72 dB.
The foam could be caused by an incorrect chemical treatment of the water. It is recommended to use chemicals without the cover, deactivating the massage function and without people inside the spa.
It is not possible to set the automatic cycle to filtrate the water, as the filtration must be started manually. The filtration system can be activated from your mobile phone if your pump has the Wi-Fi function.
Unscrew the filter set with two hands and apply strength evenly to unscrew.
To create the correct maintenance procedures for your water, follow these instructions:
1. Increase the filtration time.
2. Check the filter cartridge every day and rinse with water. If the filter cartridge remains soiled and discolored, you should replace it with a new one.
3. The filter pump alone cannot eliminate all the bacteria in the water. The most important part to keeping the water clean is keeping the correct chemical balance. Check with your checmical dealer to get the correct quantity and type of chemicals to have the correct water maintenace.
Water leaks from the adapters between the pump and spa, what can I do?
Please follow below steps or see how to video .
- Insert the two stopper caps into the spa to prevent water from escaping and disconnect the pump. Check and make sure the seals are placed correctly inside the pump adapter B, C. If the seal is placed correctly, reconnect the pump to the spa and hand-tighten the adapters until the end. If the seal is missing or isn’t placed correctly, please contact us .
How can I find out if water is leaking from the spa liner or from the pump?
- Attach the stopper caps to the inside of the liner, disconnect the pump unit, and move the pump unit away from the liner for approximately 10 minutes. If no more water has appeared beneath the liner, then the pump is causing the leak and will need to be replaced.
What should I do if there is a water leakage from the drain pipe?
- On the bottom of the spa liner the drain pipe is welded to the drain valve.
Insert the two stopper caps into the spa to prevent water from escaping and disconnect the pump. Check and make sure the seals are placed correctly inside the pump adapter B, C. If the seal is missing or isn’t placed correctly, please contact Bestway USA Customer Service at (855)-401-2000. If the seal is placed correctly, reconnect the pump to the spa and hand-tighten the adapters until the end.
If the massage function is activated and the massage doesn't work properly, follow these instructions: Stop the function and wait two to three hours during the cold time of the day. Then push the massage button again to restart the massage system. The pump is equipped with a protection that will cut the power to the blower in case the temperature reaches critical level in order to save the motor. This generally happens if the pump is exposed directly to sunshine.
IMPORTANT: the massage function has the a 30 minute auto shut-off feature to save power. To restart the function, push the button again.
The presence of white flakes in your water depends on the hardness of the water. Drain about 20 to 25% of the pool water and add fresh water to decrease the calcium hardness. Visually inspect the electrolytic cell for scale buildup and clean the electrolytic cell if necessary.
If the above operation doesn't solve the problem, contact your nearest chemical supplier to purchase the correct chemical to reduce the hardness of the water.
Please follow below steps or see how to video .
1. Unplug the pump
2. Unscrew the gear of the largest pipe
3. Let the water flow out for 30 seconds
4. Close the gear
5. Plug in the pump
6. Reset the PRCD
7. Push the on/off button on the control panel
8. Start the massage function
Starting in 2017, all repair patches included in the sets are underwater adhesive repair patches. All of the ones produced before 2017 were heavy duty repair patches. Using the underwater repair patch is easy, and it is not necessary to drain the water from your pool.
The power saving function was created to optimize the usage of the Bestway spa. You can decide to start the heating system later in the day in order to have the desired temperature and enjoy the spa massage when you need it, instead of keeping the heating function on all the time and wasting energy.
Example: if you need your spa at 40°C (104ºF) tomorrow evening, you would just follow these steps:
1. Open the filtration system and after one minute you should see the real water temperature (e.g. 18℃).
2. If the set temperature is 40℃ (104ºF), the difference between actual temperature and set temperature is 22℃ (71ºF). Since the temperature increase per hour is 2℃ (35ºF), you need to start heating the water 11 hours before using it.
- If it is 6pm and you want to use the spa next day at 6pm, this means the spa heater has to start heating at 7am, so set the waiting time to 13 hours and heating time to 11 hours.
- In this case, the power saving function saves more than 13 hours of power (more than 26KW) because without this function you would have been forced to start the spa in the evening and waste a lot of energy and money.
The remote control needs to be within 33ft. (10m).
Please consult your local chemical supplier for information about chemical maintenance. Pay close attention to the chemical manufacturer’s instructions.
If the water becomes green due to the incorrect chemical maintenance, establish the correct chemical balance by contacting your local chemical dealer. They will suggest the correct products to use and the frequency.
