SaluSpa Hot Tub Error Codes & How to Fix Them

SaluSpa Hot Tub Error Codes & How to Fix Them

Key Takeaways:

  • Most SaluSpa® error codes are designed to protect your hot tub from damage and can often be resolved with simple troubleshooting steps
  • E01 indicates a water flow sensor issue, which may be fixed by resetting the sensors or contacting customer support if the sensor is damaged
  • E02 is the most common error and typically relates to low water flow, caused by low water levels, blocked filters, stopper caps, frozen conditions or restricted plumbing
  • E03, E04, E05 and E08 are temperature-related errors tied to water that is too cold, too hot, thermometer malfunctions or thermal cut-out activation
  • Extreme outdoor temperatures and prolonged direct sunlight can trigger several temperature-related error codes
  • E15 affects the Wi-Fi module only — the hot tub can still be operated normally using the control panel
  • E18 and GCF are electrical safety warnings related to grounding issues and should be addressed promptly, often requiring an electrician
  • Regular maintenance, including cleaning filters, checking water levels and inspecting water flow, can help prevent many common error codes
  • If troubleshooting does not resolve the issue, Bestway Customer Support can assist with warranty claims, replacement parts and advanced diagnostics

Don’t let an error code get in the way of enjoying your SaluSpa® inflatable hot tub! The good news is that most of the error codes (which will show up on the digital interface of your control panel) have quick and easy fixes that will get you back into relaxation mode before you know it.

An error code will pop up (and potentially shut off your hot tub) to prevent any possible damage, while also notifying you of the type of issue going on with your hot tub. There may be multiple causes, and therefore solutions, so work your way down this list until your hot tub is functioning properly again!

Error Code: E01

The E01 error code shows up when the internal water flow sensors are running, even when the filtration or heating system isn't.

Cause Solution
The water flow sensors didn’t fall back into the correct position. Unplug your hot tub, and then gently hit the side of the heater pump (seriously). This will help knock those sensors back into place. Plug it back in and turn it back on.

Error Code: E02

The E02 error code pops up when the pump doesn’t detect enough water to run the filtration or heating system. This is one of the most common error codes you might see – read more about it here.

Cause Solution
There isn’t enough water in your hot tub. Fill the hot tub until the water level is between the Min. and Max. lines printed on the inside of the liner.
The two stopper caps are still inside your hot tub, blocking the water intake. Remove the stopper caps and try again. For more information on the stopper caps and the hot tub parts, check out the digital copies of the AirJet hot tub manual and the HydroJet hot tub manual.
It’s too cold outside to set up your hot tub. If it’s cooler than 42ºF outside, the pump will automatically turn on the Freeze Shield® heating function (great for using your hot tub all year long, not so great for trying to set it up in cold weather). This heating function is meant to protect the inside parts and the water from freezing in cold weather. To set up the hot tub in this type of weather, we recommend fully inflating the tub in an indoor area where the temperature is higher, then taking it outside to fill with water that is warmer than 42ºF.
The filter cartridge is blocked or needs to be cleaned. First, do a quick check to see if this is the issue. Remove the filter cartridge from the inside of the pump, then press the filter or heat button. If the error code doesn’t appear again, clean or replace the filter cartridge. If it still appears, move on to the next possible solution.
The water pump is broken. First, let’s check to see if this is the problem. Turn on the filtration or heating system, then place your hand in front of the outlet pipe. If you don’t feel any water coming out, click here for additional customer support, such as spare parts or a replacement and FAQs and product help. If you do feel water, move on to the next possible solution.
The pipes inside the liner are bending or have poor water flow. Straighten out the pipes and try again. If the problem persists, click here for additional customer support, such as warranty services, spare parts and additional FAQs and product help.
The internal debris screens are being blocked by either calcium or hard water buildup. Empty the water from your hot tub. Then, using a garden hose, flush water through the pipes to wash away any debris. For best results, we recommend doing this from both the inside and outside of your hot tub. You can even use a toothbrush to scrub the more difficult areas. Fill the tub up again and turn it back on.

Error Code: E03

The E03 error code indicates that the internal thermometer is reading the water temperature below 40ºF - the lowest temperature at which the hot tub can run.

 Cause Solution
The water temperature actually is lower than 40ºF.  Unplug and disassemble the hot tub. Set it back up and run it again once temperatures are over 42ºF (or borrow our trick from E02 and fully inflate the hot tub indoors and bring it back outside, filling it with water over 42ºF).

Error Code: E04

The E04 error code tells you that the internal thermometer is reading the water temperature above 119ºF - the highest temperature at which the hot tub can run.

  Cause Solution
The water temperature actually is higher than 119ºF.  Unplug the hot tub and wait until the water temperature cools to below 100ºF. Turn the hot tub on again and hit the "Reset" button on the pump.
The temperature outside is higher than 104ºF, or the hot tub has been left in direct sunlight for too long. Unplug and detach the pump, then drain the water from the hot tub. Wait 15 minutes, then reattach the pump, plug it back in and restart the heating function. If the code appears again, consider moving the hot tub to another location without direct sunlight.

Error Code: E05

You will see the E05 error code when the internal thermometer isn’t functioning properly.

Error Code: E08

Every SaluSpa portable hot tub is equipped with a thermal cut-out – a function that will turn off the heating pump when the temperature is too high. The E08 error code notifies you that the thermal cut-out has activated, and the hot tub will not turn back on until the temperature is low enough to use it.

Cause  Solution
The temperature outside is higher than 122ºF, or the hot tub has been left in direct sunlight for too long. Unplug and detach the pump, then move the pump to a cool, dry place to cool down. If you are looking for the fastest solution, you can also drain the water from the hot tub and refill it with cooler water. If not, wait until the water temperature is 95ºF or below before plugging the pump back in and restarting the hot tub. If the code appears again, consider moving the hot tub to another location without direct sunlight.
The thermal cut-out is broken.  Click here for additional support, such as warranty services, spare parts and additional FAQs and product help.

Error Code: E15

The E15 error code means that the Wi-Fi module isn’t properly connected, and you may not be able to use your smartphone to activate the functions. Good news – the hot tub can still be used without the Wi-Fi activation! All you have to do is press any button to dismiss the error code notification and use the hot tub as you normally would with the control panel attached to the pump.

Cause  Solution
The Wi-Fi module has been damaged.  Click here for additional support, such as warranty services, spare parts and additional FAQs and product help.

Error Code: E18

All SaluSpa hot tubs feature a GLEDS – a function that monitors the electric grounding of the appliances in your home. If you’re seeing the E18 error code, then electricity has been detected from the grounding wire.

Cause Solution
An appliance in your home may have an electric leak.  Call an electrician immediately to determine if power is flowing inside the grounding connection. If the problem continues, to safely use your hot tub, we strongly recommend plugging the pump into an outlet socket with independent grounding from the rest of your home.

Error Code: GCF

Every SaluSpa hot tub has a GDS – a system that ensures the hot tub is used in an outlet with proper ground connection, providing additional electric current protection. If the GCF is showing on your control panel, then the ground connection has failed.

Cause  Solution
There is a problem with the ground bonding in your home.  Connect the hot tub pump to a new outlet socket or call an electrician to evaluate the socket you are currently using. If the problem continues, we strongly recommend creating an independent grounding connection to the wall socket.
