Spring and summer fun doesn’t officially start until your first splash in the pool. Here are 5 tips for getting your pool ready for fun in the sun!
1. Level the Swimming Pool Field
An even ground surface is one of the most important steps you can take to prepare your backyard for your above ground pool. If the ground is uneven, it can lead to the pool leaning with water pressure pushing against one area of the pool. The pool can collapse, causing the water to become a threat to your property and anyone in or around it. To level the ground, follow these simple instructions, and always make sure the ground is free of rocks, twigs and sharp objects before laying a ground cover down for the pool.

2. Prep & Check the Liner
As you continue setting up your above ground pool for sunny weather, check the pool liner for tears, punctures, cracks or other weaknesses. A faulty pool liner can sometimes be undetectable to the eye. We recommend initially leaving the pool liner out in the sun for at least 2 hours to become more pliable before unfolding it to prevent cracking.
Next, unless you detect obvious tears in the liner, fill your pool. If you notice a leak, but can’t determine where it’s coming from, follow these tips for how you can find and fix a leak in your above ground pool.

3. Drain Valve Test
The final checkpoint for installing your above ground pool is your drain valve. Check the drain valve in your pool to ensure the cap is properly in place and your hose is removed to prevent water from leaking through the drain valve. Once your drain valve is tested and firmly in place, get ready for a splashing good time!

4. Prime the Pump
Before your first swim, make sure you check the filter pump! Your summer splashes can begin once you check and prime the pool pump to ensure it’s still in good working condition. Be sure to get water flowing through the pump before fully turning it on. Let water run into the pump so there will be enough to create suction. Although it may sputter a bit, you should start seeing water filling the pump. Pool pumps can possibly lose parts or get cracked over winter, so make sure to test yours to ensure it is still in good condition before using it to filter your pool.

A clean pool is a happy pool! Make sure you have all the pool supplies to keep your water sparkling before you really need them. Filter cartridges, chemicals and new cleaning tools are just a few considerations you’ll want to make while resetting your backyard and getting ready for a summertime utopia.
