5 easy steps to follow
As an above ground pool owner, you know that proper maintenance is key to prolonging the lifespan of your pool.
Even with regular upkeep, you may need to change your above ground pool liner due to normal wear and tear, damage that is too large to fix with a patch (an accident or weather-related damage), or when you find a new print or pattern that shows off your style.
Regardless of the reason, these 5 easy steps will get the splashing going again in no time!
1. Drain the Water
First, you’ll want to release all the water through the drain valve. Most Bestway® above ground pools feature a specially designed flow control drain valve that lets you adjust how quickly the water drains from your pool. If your pool is near your house or anything that’s susceptible to water damage, attach your garden hose to drain the water away from the area. If you don’t have a drain valve hose adapter, you can get a replacement.
To drain your Hydrium™ Steel Wall Pool, check out these helpful instructions!
2. Disassemble the Pool & Remove the Liner
Please refer to your pool’s manual for in-depth, step-by-step instructions.
• If you have a steel frame Steel Pro®, Steel Pro MAX™, Power Steel® or APX 365™ pool:
o Remove the legs from the band (optional step, depending on the shape and height of your pool)
o Detach the legs and/or U-supports (depending on the shape of your pool)
o Disconnect the top rails from the connectors
o Remove the top rails from the liner
o Remove the liner
• If you have a steel wall Hydrium™ pool:
o Remove the top ledge, the clips and then the liner
• If you have an inflatable top Fast Set™ pool:
o Since replacing the liner means you’ll be replacing the entire pool (other than the filter pump), start by deflating the top ring by squeezing the large safety valve and pressing down on the ring to push out the air. You can use an air pump to do this quickly!
3. Do a Ground Inspection
If you’re disassembling the entire frame of a steel wall pool or steel frame pool, or replacing your inflatable top pool, now’s the perfect time to do a thorough inspection of the ground.
Double check that the ground is still level and free of debris, rocks or anything that could potentially puncture the new liner.
4. Attach the New Liner
• Lay the liner flat
• Put the top rails through the liner holes
• Attach the connectors
• Put the legs/U-supports back in place
For in-depth, step-by-step directions, please refer to your pool’s manual.
If you don’t have a new liner yet, and you aren’t sure which liner you need, you can check for a replacement liner using our Parts Finder.
5. Add Water and Remove Wrinkles
Once the liner is attached, reattach your pump and fill the pool with around ½ inch of water using your garden hose. From inside the pool, smooth out all the wrinkles from the bottom. Start in the center of the pool and work your way clockwise to the outside. Once finished, continue refilling the pool with water to the maximum fill line.
Now that the pool is filled, let the fun in the sun begin!
